Quick Bibliography SeriesBibliographies in the Quick Bibliography Series of the National
Agricultural Library, are intended primarily for
current awareness, and as the title of the series implies, are not
indepth exhaustive bibliographies on any given subject. However,
the citations are a substantial resource for recent investigations
on a given topic. They also serve the purpose of bringing the
literature of agriculture to the interested user who, in many
cases, could not access it by any other
means. The bibliographies are derived from computerized on-line
searches of the AGRICOLA data base. Timeliness of topic and
evidence of extensive interest are the selection criteria.

The author/searcher determines the purpose, length, and search
strategy of the Quick Bibliography. Information regarding
these is available upon request from the author/searcher.

Copies of this bibliography may be made or used for
distribution without prior approval. The inclusion or
omission of a particular publication or citation may not be
 construed as endorsement or disapproval.

Abstract: This book is a guide to a range of Australian bush
foods. The species and processes described are those used by the
Aborigines who knew or still use these foods as their
local resources; in addition some examples are presented of the
comtemporary use of bush food in a non-Aboriginal
Australian cuisine. Suggestions are made as to which species to
plant in various areas of Australia and as to a few
essential plants for a herbal medicine chest. The information
presented is designed to be a key to unl ock some of the ways to
learn more about bush resources. Recipes are included.

Abstract: Various nontraditional cancer therapies commonly called
"metabolic therapies" are described in this booklet, co-authored by
a Doctor Osteopathy and a freelance medical
journalist. Differences between allopathic (traditional) and
metabolic treatment approac hes are defined. Some types of
metabolic therapies described include 1) nutritional
approaches (megavitamin and mineral therapies, special diets), 2)
hematoxylin and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), 3)
immunotherapy, 4) enzyme therapy, 5) herbal poultices and 6) anti-
amoebic therapy. An anticancer protocol, designed to
enhance the immune systems of individuals at increased risk for
developing cancer, is described, as is a seven-day
detoxification program that allegedly rids internal organs of
accumulated toxic wastes. Clinical and laboratory tests
administered to patients before beginning metabolic cancer
therapies are identified. Personal testimonies are included from
patients who have undergone metabolic cancer therapy.

Abstract: The herbal remedies produced are distributed by
Herbalife International may be hazardous to the health-and-
wealth of the consumer. Claims include that the products
offered will effect a dramatic weight loss, "cleanse" the
body, and promote vitality. While the product line numbers
about 20, the company's main product is a "Slim and Trim
Program," representing a combination of 4 "formulas," which cause
diarrhea, fluid loss, and chronic constipation. Product side-
effects, the company structure, consumer complaints made to FDA,
and a number of pending law suits also are
 discussed.(wz)
