Animal Welfare Information Center Newsletter, Spring 1997, Vol. 8 No. 1
During 1997, Renaissance Research Associates will be conducting
three multimedia short courses designed to fulfill the training
requirements of the Animal Welfare Act. All participants will
receive a certificate and course manual. The course will cover:
- humane methods of animal care and use and handling and
procedural techniques, with the emphasis on species covered by
the Animal Welfare Act;
- concepts, availability, and use of research or testing
methods limiting animal use and minimizing distress;
- adequate veterinary care and proper use of anesthetics,
analgesics, and tranquilizers;
- reporting deficiencies in animal care programs;
- accessing information resources and services at the Animal
Welfare Information Center and the National Agricultural
Library;
- animal care and use committee functions including an
interactive "IACUC Meeting Session;"
- environmental enrichment;
- internet resources and;
- zoonoses and other occupational health issues.
