Food Irradiation 2 Wholesomeness Collection:
U.S. Government Reports from the 1950's and 1960's

What is the Food Irradiation 2 Wholesomeness Collection?

This collection, originally produced on CD-ROM, contains approximately 11,000 pages of research reports supported by the Office of the Surgeon General, Department of the Army, on the topic of wholesomeness of irradiated foods. The research materials include progress, pathology, and clinical reports, raw data, and journal articles produced in the 1950's and 1960's. They are part of a large food irradiation collection of research documents located at the National Agricultural Library.

The Wholesomeness materials were identified and organized by Dr. Ari Brynjolfsson, former Director of the International Facility for Food Irradiation Technology in the Netherlands. Dr. Brynjolfsson also added subject descriptors for each document, which have been included in the bibliographic headers. Without his contribution, this database would not have been possible. Much credit is also due the NATDP staffer Alexander Schwarzmann, who further organized the materials and designed the database.
