Easy access to up-to-date authoritative agricultural
information, data, and services is needed by consumers,
policymakers, researchers and other agricultural specialists, farmers, the agribusiness, library and educational
communities, and the general public. To meet
this need, the National
Agricultural Library (NAL) has been working towards the establishment of a National Digital Library for Agriculture
(NDLA) since 2002, in accordance
with recommendations
of the National
Agricultural Research, Extension, Education, and Economics Advisory Board to
the Secretary of Agriculture.
NAL has held extensive consultations with partners and stakeholders about developing the NDLA,
funded 26 digitization projects at AgNIC member institutions since 2004, and gathered data on
agricultural information needs in 2006 via a major online survey.
NAL is currently seeking
comments on a design concept for the NDLA as well as expressions of
interest from institutions interested in partnering with NAL to develop the
NDLA.
