Nos. 3504 and 3502 are selections from a cross of US-1798 (a pistillate selection of Ettersburg 904 x Howard 17 (Premier) with a tetraploid ,Fragaria vesca. They have 6 sets of chromosomes, 4 sets from US-1798 and 2 from a 4x vesca. When these were crossed with cultivated varieties, some seedlings were quite fertile and were found to have 10 sets of chromosomes, 2 from vesca and 8 from cultivated varieties. The lOx seedlings had the vesca fragrance. (See Plate 7-2)
