Keens Seedling won Michael Keens a silver cup from the RoyaI Horticultural Society when he introduced it in 1821. Almost a century later in the early 1900's it had yet to be replaced as a near-perfect berry. The sensation it reated sparked other growers to attempt their own hybridizations. Keens Seedling blood is to be found in almost every outstanding variety of strawberries cultivated in the northeastern United States.
