Luke O Dio to Thomas Jefferson

Hon[our]d S[i]r I am informed that there is Publick Gardens to be Laid out in the City of Washington under your sanction and as you have seen some of the Beautifull [sic] Gardens of Europe I should Be Happy to Dow [sic] Buisness [sic] for them that seen and understands more by all acc[oun]ts than any other man in this Part of the world if the work is Not alre[a]dy Bespoke or Dowing [sic] By men of Judgment I would undertake the Drawing for the work and finish it to any Neatness Required I Have worked some years for His Majesty the King of England and in all the Publick Gardens & Privit [sic] Gardens of Note about London in Europe and am confident I can Give more satisfaction to you and the Publick than any other man in America I Have Done 2 smart Pi[e]ces of work on the E[a]stern shore of Marylan[d] one for Wm. Paca Esq[ui]r[e] who was once Governor of this state and one for a Mr. Chew Near the same Place I an Nown [sic] to Mr. Mason President of the Columb[i]a Bank and some others of the Georgetown Gentry [sic] if these things are Not to Gow [sic] on Probable [sic] you may want me to be your own Privit [sic] Gard[e]ner as I understand the Kitchen fruit f[l]ower and Ple[a]sure Gardens Laying out of Hothouses and Greenhouses in the Neatest Europin [sic] forms and thier [sic] management Nursery, &c. &c. I hope you will forgive this much from my Pen and Remain S[i]r Y[ou]r obed[i]ent and Humble sarvt [sic] Luke O Dio June the 23d 1801.
