Breastfeeding Social Marketing Campaign
The Massachusetts WIC 2009 Breastfeeding Performance Improvement Project identified collaboration with the medical community as an essential component of quality breastfeeding care.  In particular, improving relationships with staff at birthing hospitals and increasing WIC’s visibility as a breastfeeding program were highlighted as best practices.

In 2010 Massachusetts WIC partnered with a social marketing contractor to engage in formative research and the development of a social marketing campaign to improve partnerships between WIC and the medical community in the promotion and support of breastfeeding as well as to provide breastfeeding messages to families that present WIC as an important part of the health care team. Interviews with various stakeholder were held and the results were used to develop messages for families related to breastfeeding and WIC using three strategies: radio PSAs, mass transit advertising, and grass-roots community events.

Shopping with WIC Campaign
This is an initiative launched by the Pennsylvania Association of WIC Directors (PAWD) Outreach Committee in May 2006 to promote awareness and support of the Women, Infants & Children Nutrition Program through a partnership with our WIC vendors. The goal is to reach out to potential WIC participants in the most obvious of places….the grocery store!

The campaign materials include a choice of three in-store displays (a 3-D shopping cart, stand-up easel or counter top display), English/Spanish rack card, and a floor graphic. Other promotional materials include a shopping list notepad and a canvas tote bag to be used at in-store promotions and other venues.

Note: The images of the three pregnant women can not be used. States would have to insert their own images. All other images and graphics may be reproduced.
