University students, faculty and researchers use the 30-acre organic farm and 3-acre Alan Chadwick Garden as teaching and research sites in organic horticulture and agriculture. Programs also include farm tours, gardening workshops, and programs for K-12 students.
The 9-acre, certified organic Cal Poly Organic Farm provides "undergraduate students a place to experience hands-on learning in organic and sustainable farming practices." Offers on-site enterprise project courses and volunteer opportunities.
The Bowdoin Organic Garden provides research opportunities for faculty and agricultural experiences for the college community, and it supplies vegetables and fruits to the College's Dining Service.
College of the Atlantic students can design and participate in independent and group studies, work-study jobs, and final projects that involve Peggy Rockefeller Farms and nearby Beech Farm. Peggy Rockefeller Farms operations include the production of pastured livestock; cultivation of certified organic livestock, fruits, berries, vegetables, and mushrooms; and renewable energy projects. The Farm employs students, offers additional opportunities for hands-on experiences, and offers classes that include organic gardening and farm planning.
This 6-unit certificate provides "skills needed to work in urban farming as a profession."
The certified organic 5.8 acre Indian Valley Organic Farm and Garden, managed through a partnership with Cultural Conservancy and University of California Cooperative Extension, "was created to support and sustain local food systems and organic agriculture," to teach Marin County residents about local agriculture, and "to provide fresh and healthy food for local residents." Students use the farm for research, coursework, and to meet degree program requirements.
