The five-acre Student Sustainable Farm has been expanding to focus more on organic production and community involvement. The farm provides students with summer internships, hands-on experience in the production and management of a small organic farm, and experience in landscape architecture and environmental planning.
The Sustainable Living Department offers a Bachelor's degree in Regenerative Organic Agriculture and a 10-month certificate program in the same area. The programs emphasize practices that improve soil and create balanced farm ecosystems. The certified organic farm and greenhouses provide hands-on learning opportunities for students, including marketing to local buyers and via a CSA program. Students have access to internship opportunities on farms from the local areas to overseas.
The SOFT Student Farm began in the spring of 2008 with a handful of students and faculty dedicated to creating a place for student exploration and leadership in agriculture. Students market produce from SOFT on campus.
This Minor focuses on "integrat[ing] knowledge and technology in a systems approach to manage land for sustainable utilization of natural resources."
The Sterling College Farm programs in vegetable production, livestock management and woodlot management support the courses in the Sustainable Agriculture major and in the Food Systems major, serves the College's dining hall, and offers general farming experience for agriculture students.

Part of the Southern Illinois University Farms system, the Sustainability Center is comprised of the student-run Sustainable Vegetable Farm and Greenhouse, a Vermicomposting Center, and the Paper Recycling Project. The farm provides organic vegetables to the Southern Illinois University dining halls.
The Purdue University Student Farm offers students experiential learning opportunities, serves as a site for undergraduate research on sustainable agriculture, and offers courses to students who participate in the farm's operation.
Farm practices at the University of Wisconsin's Pioneer Farm, a 430-acre laboratory and demonstration facility, focus on sustainable agriculture and agroecology with instruction in precision agriculture, soil conservation methods, and diversified cropping systems.
The Soil Stewards Student Farm, a University of Idaho student club for the organic farming and sustainable community, operates a 3-acre certified organic farm and research site at the University of Idaho research farms and runs a local CSA.
"The Profitable Small Farms program combines hands-on learning and classroom teaching to develop the skills to start a small farm. The program has a dual focus on the technical skills to produce food sustainably with minimal negative environmental impacts and the entrepreneurial skills to develop and manage a community-based agricultural business. Throughout the program students practice growing food crops and manage small animals on the LBCC student organic farm. Farm-direct marketing is experienced by managing the college CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program, and selling to the campus restaurants and students and staff at the college farmers' market."
College of the Atlantic students can design and participate in independent and group studies, work-study jobs, and final projects that involve Peggy Rockefeller Farms and nearby Beech Farm. Peggy Rockefeller Farms operations include the production of pastured livestock; cultivation of certified organic livestock, fruits, berries, vegetables, and mushrooms; and renewable energy projects. The Farm employs students, offers additional opportunities for hands-on experiences, and offers classes that include organic gardening and farm planning.
The 365-acre Shone Farm provides hands-on experience to students in the Sustainable Agriculture and Animal Science Programs. Students produce and sell grass-fed beef, direct market value-added products, and operate a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program.
The College's Practice of Organic Agriculture spans 3 quarters and has both an academic "emphasis" and an on-farm component at the Evergreen State College Organic Farm. The course addresses practices in organic farming; running a farm business; and marketing food. One quarter explores "organic food production systems using the three pillars of sustainability - economic, environmental, and social justice." The Evergreen College also has a permaculture site, demonstration site, compost facility, and a biodiesel generation project. Evergreen College does not offer Majors or Minors; students have the options of focusing studies in a particular area and designating that as their area of emphasis.
The Paul L. Byrne Agricultural Teaching and Research Center is an 800-acre diversified farm that includes an Organic Dairy Unit and research in organic vegetable production. The farm is used to evaluate and demonstrate organic and sustainable farming practices.
An outdoor classroom, Seeds@City Urban Farm, offers hands-on training in sustainable, organic, local and community agriculture.
The 1.2 acre Pomona College Organic Farm serves as a site for hands-on education in "various methods of small-scale ecological farming." Students, faculty and staff use the farm for academic studies and have conducted research for thesis projects on sustainability. The farm hosts local school groups and community tours, and offers workshops and events for community members.
