Farm and Energy Initiative

The Farm and Energy Initiative (FEI) website, a collaboration between Vermont Law School’s Institute for Energy and the Environment and the Center for Agriculture and Food Systems (CAFS), is a resource used to promote the use of sustainable energy in agriculture. The FEI site includes toolkits, business models, policy information, and legal information to support farmers, researchers, and policymakers.
The Farm and Energy Initiative features three projects:

  • Farmland Solar Policy Project: Through this project, FEI has compiled a database of state solar siting laws and regulations, provided reports and research on solar development policies, and created a toolkit to craft regulations that would work for your community.
  • Biogas and Organic Waste Management Project: Learn more about biogas and organic waste management and anaerobic digestion in agriculture. The podcast series and FAQs highlight this technology and the associated environmental benefits, economic costs, and regulations.
  • Healthy Soils Law Project: FEI features research on soil management, ecological agriculture, soil health and the law, and policy implications and compensation for ecosystem services.

The FEI project was created by Vermont Law School’s Institute for Energy and the Environment and the Center for Agriculture and Food Systems (CAFS), and funded with a grant from the National Agricultural Library.
