Keywords

Keywords express the main concepts of your research topic. They are consistently called search terms and are the words you place into your search box within your selected databases.

When determining the keywords for your database search—identify your keywords (main concepts), consider synonyms for these keywords, and spell out any abbreviations. (Ex.: AWIC and “Animal Welfare Information Center).

**Finding keywords is a process. Be prepared to search and come across additional keywords that you can use as your search progresses.

Example:
(Environmental Enrichment for Mice)-- Your keywords are: “Environmental enrichment” and Mice. Additional synonymous keywords could include:

Mouse or murine or the specific breed
“Nesting material”, bedding, cardboard, tube, wheel
