Quartermaster Corps Front Royal Remount Station Photographs
The collection consists of 106 black and white photographs taken during winter of 1941 at the United States Army Remount Station in Front Royal, Virginia (operated by the Quartermaster Corps). The photographs are captioned and illustrate the process by which the Army cared for and trained animals toward the end of the era of the United States Army Remount Service.113 Items

Description: All foals are checked and weighed periodically by a Veterinary Officer.
Weighing foals
Description: Painstaking care produces results. All foals are weighed regularly: at birth, three months, six months and then every six months until four years of age, at which time they are shipped to the mounted service schools.
Mare and foal
Description: During the first week of life, each mare and her foal are placed in a separate paddock either alone or with another mare and her foal. This materially reduces the number of injuries in young foals.
Mares bred at Depot
