Institutions
Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research, UK
Start date
2005
End date
2006
Objective
  • Set up a functional hydroponics facility using test plants for inclusion in antimicrobial screens. Provide hydroponically produced material for antimicrobial screens.
  • Provide research support to optimise hydroponic production of active components in target plants from antimicrobial screens.
  • Refine extraction methodologies for hydroponically produced material with suitable starting protocols provided by collaborators.
  • Conduct animal trial on up to 3 compounds identified from screens and provided by the consortium. The compounds will be tested in steers for their ability to reduce load of surrogate pathogens E. Coli and Listeria.
