Research Publications (Food Safety)

The Food Safety Publications tracks research that is published across national and international peer-reviewed journals. Recent articles are available ahead of print and searchable by Journal, Article Title, and Category. The research publications are tracked across six categories: Bacterial Pathogens, Chemical Contaminants, Natural Toxins, Parasites, Produce Safety, and Viruses. Articles produced by USDA Grant Funding Agencies and FDA Grant Funding Agencies are also tracked.

  1. Promising applications of cold plasma for microbial safety, chemical decontamination and quality enhancement in fruits

    • Fri, 12/06/2019 - 03:27
    • Journal of Applied Microbiology
    • Consumers’ demand is increasing for safe foods without impairing the phytochemical and sensory quality. In turn, it has increased research interest in the exploration of innovative food processing technologies. Cold plasma technology is getting popularity now days owing to its high efficacy in decontamination of microbes in fruit and fruit based products. As a on‐thermal approach, plasma processing maintains the quality of fruits and minimizes the thermal effects on nutritional properties.

  2. The vegetative compatibility group to which the US biocontrol agent Aspergillus flavus AF36 belongs is also endemic to Mexico

    • Thu, 01/07/2016 - 09:20
    • Journal of Applied Microbiology
    • Abstract

      Aims

To assess frequencies of the Aspergillus flavus atoxigenic vegetative compatibility group (VCG) YV36, to which the biocontrol agent AF36 belongs, in maize-growing regions of Mexico.

  3. Identification of Pesticide Varieties and Concentrations by detecting Characteristics of Chlorella pyrenoidosa

    • Thu, 06/18/2015 - 01:30
    • Journal of Applied Microbiology
    • Aims
To determine the varieties and concentrations of pesticides by detecting the changes of microalgae components using Raman microspectroscopy technology.

  4. Covalent Immobilization of Recombinant Organophosphorus Hydrolase on Spores of Bacillus subtilis

    • Wed, 01/21/2015 - 01:16
    • Journal of Applied Microbiology
    • Aims
Organophosphorus pesticides are widely used in agriculture. Accordingly decontamination of these pesticides and their residual in environment is an important aim of researchers. One of the best approaches is enzymatic detoxification of these compounds with organophosphorus hydrolase (OPH). The immobilization of OPH on environmentally friendly supports is of great importance for developing stabilized enzymes to degradation of organophosphorus compounds.
