Research Publications (Food Safety)

This page tracks research articles published in national and international peer-reviewed journals. Recent articles are available ahead of print and searchable by Journal, Article Title, and Category. Research publications are tracked across six categories: Bacterial Pathogens, Chemical Contaminants, Natural Toxins, Parasites, Produce Safety, and Viruses. Articles produced by USDA Grant Funding Agencies (requires login) and FDA Grant Funding Agencies (requires login) are also tracked in Scopus.

  1. Lufenuron treatment temporarily represses gene expression and affects the SUMO pathway in liver of Atlantic salmon

    • Journal of Fish Diseases
    • Abstract Lufenuron is a benzoylurea insecticide currently in use to combat sea lice infestation in salmon aquaculture in Chile. With pending approval in Norway, the aim of this work was to study the uptake and toxicity of lufenuron in liver tissue of Atlantic salmon. Juvenile salmon weighing 40 g were given a standard 7‐day oral dose, and bioaccumulation and transcriptional responses in the liver were examined 1 day after the end‐of‐treatment (day 8) and after 1 week of elimination (day 14).

  3. Natural ingredient paeoniflorin could be a lead compound against white spot syndrome virus infection in Litopenaeus vannamei

    • Journal of Fish Diseases
    • Journal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView. White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) is an important pathogen causing high mortality in the shrimp industry in aquaculture, yet there is no treatment available to date. In order to find a treatment against WSSV infection, this study examined the anti-WSSV activity of eight natural compounds using shrimp larvae as a model.

  4. Chlorpyrifos induces redox imbalance‐dependent inflammation in common carp lymphocyte through dysfunction of T‐cell receptor γ

    • Journal of Fish Diseases
    • Chlorpyrifos is a poisonous pesticide that is highly toxic to fish and aquatic organisms. However, there are fewer reports about how chlorpyrifos influences the redox balance of immune cells. Herein, the head kidney tissue treated with chlorpyrifos to do transcriptome analysis and TCR γ was screened out. Subsequently, we established TCR γ knockdown and overexpression carp head kidney lymphocyte models, respectively, by using RNA interference and pcDNA3.1.
