Thus, as part of a companion study to establish the "true" prevalence of Listeria monocytogenes among ready-to-eat (RTE) foods purchased at retail stores, digital photographs were recorded by data collectors trained to identify potential perceived and actual food safety risk situations.

Citizen science is a unique data collection method in which non-scientists gather and interpret data in collaboration with professional scientists. The purpose of this study was to identify thermometer usage behaviors through a different process for data collection. Most thermometer usage studies happen through self-reported, quantitative studies.
