Research at the North Alabama Horticulture Research Center is focused on organic production of tomatoes, peppers and sweet potatoes in organic systems. The Center is one of two organic agriculture research units in the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station system that has certified organic research plots and focuses on applied research to support small-scale organic farmers.
The 23-acre Student Farm offers practical, hands-on sustainable agriculture education through courses, internships, special projects, summer organic farming internship, a pollinator program, a garden-based child/youth-focused education program and research projects. The Dartmouth Organic Farm, a certified-organic, student-run educational and working farm, provides opportunities for student and faculty research, labs and courses, internships, and independent projects, and includes hands-on experience in sustainable food, organic production, renewable energy, beekeeping, and aquaponics.
The College's 50-acre, USDA-certified organic farm is available to students and faculty for indepenent research projects, labs and onsite courses. "Students learn about renewable energy and sustainable agriculture through workshops and volunteer opportunities." The Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems (CIAS) creates "multidisciplinary research and education/training projects" that focus on how "integrated farming systems can contribute to environmental, economic, social, and intergenerational sustainability."
Formerly the Dryland Agriculture Institute. "Researchers...research and develop technology and implement solutions for improving the sustainability of dryland agriculture in the light of depleting water resources for irrigated agriculture."
The Plant Science Research Center is one of two research units in the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station system that have certified organic research plots and that focus on applied research to support small-scale organic farmers. The Center conducts research on organic transplants, vegetable crops and microgreens.
The Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems (CASFS) engages in research, education, and outreach programs that focus on "creating agriculture and food systems that sustain both human communities and the environments in which they live." CASFS manages a 30-acre organic farm and the 3-acre Alan Chadwick Garden. Programs also include undergraduate internships, on-farm research, a six-month on-farm apprenticeship in Ecological Horticulture, farm tours, gardening workshops, and programs for K-12 students.

The University of Georgia farmland includes more than six acres of certified organic production area with field plots and a greenhouse at the Durham Horticulture Farm in Watkinsville, and provides students in the Certificate Program in Organic Agriculture with hands-on learning opportunities.
The 14-acre certified organic farm, located on the Clemson University campus, "serves as a resource for training and education in sustainable and organic agriculture" and "offers research opportunities for undergraduate/graduate students, and also provides students of any discipline with hands-on experience in organic production systems."
The Snyder Research and Extension Farm is the Rutgers University Center for Sustainable Agriculture. The Farm "shares the scientific resources of the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences" and provides public education to the local community. Rutgers faculty study sustainable agricultural production techniques and utilize the farm, including its certified organic land, for research and other services.
Cornell University manages research farms, orchards, greenhouses, and other facilities dedicated to sustainable agriculture and to organic research. Research programs focus on: organic vegetable production; weed and crop management, organic production systems and breeding and variety testing; organic grain trials; pest management; vegetable pest and crop management systems; organic greenhouse production; organic grape production; and organic apple production.
"Land in the Organic Research Unit is available to all researchers at North Carolina State University and North Carolina A&T State University to conduct short-term research projects." "CEFS faculty, in their work to support sustainable agriculture and local food systems, conduct research and provide demonstrations of organic production practices at the Organic Research Unit, the Small Farm Unit, and the long-term Farming Systems Research Unit. One hundred and six acres of the 2,000-acre research station are currently certified organic." Offers a Sustainable Agriculture Research Apprenticeship Program and internships.
University of Hawaii students practice sustainable and organic agriculture techniques, and gain experience in beekeeping, hydroponics, aquaculture and other enterprises, on the 110-acre Hilo Agricultural Farm Laboratory.
Students can explore organic and sustainable agriculture, agroecology and environmental sciences at the 25-acre Evergreen State College's Organic Farm. The Organic Farm's Sustainable Agriculture Lab is a hands-on training facility. The farm includes a food-grade laboratory, the student-designed and built Organic Farmhouse, and the student-run Demeter's permaculture demonstration site and Community Gardens. A Community Supported Agriculture program and community-based activities also are available.
Other Oregon State University, College of Agricultural Sciences departments also offer onsite and online graduate and undergraduate coursework including organic production, biological control of pests, agroecology, soil and weed ecology, and sustainable agriculture.
