The Department of Plant Sciences offers an M.S. Degree in Plant Sciences and offers a Ph.D. in collaboration with soil science faculty in the Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science, and Entomology and Plant Patholog faculty. Graduate studies and research opportunities in organic and sustainable crop production are available.
The 92-acre Organic Crops Unit, one of six farming units that make up the East Tennessee Ag Research and Education Center, includes 14 acres certified organic and 7 acres under conventional production. The farms support faculty and graduate student research, with a primary emphasis on sustainable and organic crop production.
