|IACUC Membership||Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees|
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is responsible for regulating animals used in research that are covered under the Animal Welfare Act and its regulations. The Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare at the National Institutes of Health is responsible for assuring that institutions receiving Federal funding through U.S. Public Health Service agencies follow the Public Health Service Policy on the Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. USDA-registered research facilities must have at least 3 members who are appointed by the Chief Executive Officer of the facility. OLAW-assured facilities must have at least 5 members.
