Food Safety Data

The Canadian Food Safety Information Network (CFSIN) is a federal initiative that will better anticipate, detect and respond to food safety events and emergencies, by connecting and coordinating federal, provincial and territorial (FPT) food safety and public health authorities.

Results of baseline data studies, E. coli O157:H7 testing, ready-to-eat (RTE) product sampling, and Salmonella/Campylobacter verification testing are reported here. The Food Safety and Inspection Service's (FSIS), part of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Office of Public Health Science (OPHS) uses the latest scientifically-based microbiological approaches to detect, understand, and prevent foodborne hazards. In calendar year 2014, the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS, part of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), analyzed 18,087 verification samples across three meat and poultry product classes with the following rates of Salmonellapositives by product class: young chicken ( 3.8%), ground beef (1.6%) and turkey (1.7%). FSIS believes that the higher the percent positive rate, the greater the potential for the public to consume a product that can cause foodborne illness. FSIS scheduled approximately 75 sample sets monthly using a risk-based algorithm to target establishments demonstrating variable or poor process control (i.e., establishments with high percent positive rates). The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), part of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), conducts nontyphoidal Salmonella serotype testing on isolates recovered from raw meat and poultry products subject to sampling under the Pathogen Reduction Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (PR/HACCP) verification testing program. The results presented here provide an estimate of relative serotype distributions for each product class during the 16-year period following implementation of   the PR/HACCP program (1998-2014).   All data sets are reported by calendar year (CY).

The Food safety collaborative platform (FOSCOLLAB) integrates elements from separate sources: JECFA database, JMPR database, GEMS/Food Contaminants database, FAO/WHO Chronic individual food consumption database (CIFOCOss), the WHO Collaborating Centers Database and data from other United Nations (UN) organizations.

By integrating multiple sources of reliable data, FOSCOLLAB helps overcome the challenges of accessing key sources in a timely manner, allowing for better risk assessment and decision-making by food safety professionals and authorities.

A data product provided by the Economic Research Service (ERS), part of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), summarizes the adoption of herbicide-tolerant and insect-resistant corn, cotton, and soybeans. The tables below provide data obtained by USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in the June Agricultural Survey for 2000-20. ERS does not modify the data published in the annual NASS Acreage report.
