The study outlined in this proposal aims to evaluate the effect of repeated antimicrobial treatment and the use of growth-promoting minerals on the acquisition, dissemination and persistence of resistance by the enteric bacterial flora of the pig. In so doing, the study will endeavour to identify strategies to minimise the threat to public health posed by the use of antimicrobial agents in livestock production
