The major goal of this project is to build on our current knowledge of how maize flavones are synthesized and regulated to enhance maize nutritional value and performance. The specific objectives for this proposal are:1) We will determine the flavone compositionof maize seeds harboring the salmon silk1 (sm1) allele with a deletion of a flanking region, and in seeds harbring mutations invarious UDP-glucosyl transferase (UGT) genes2) We will elucidate the role of rhamnose synthase in the conversion of rhamnosylisoorientin (RIO) to maysin3) we will identify the main maysin regulator in maize leaves
