Campylobacter as model system to understand emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance


The major goal of this project is to further understand emergence, lateral gene transfer-mediated spread and resilience of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in agricultural ecosystems. To pursue this, in the current project we will employ Campylobacter as model system with the following objectives:Objective 1. To characterize the genetic basis of AMR emergence upon stepwise selection to macrolidesObjective 2. To investigate AMR spread via lateral gene transfer of MGE-associated resistance determinants in vivo, in feces and in farm water microcosmsObjective 3. To investigate fitness costs that may impact AMR spread and resilience
