To determine the health effects of chronic iron overload in mice and rats.

To determine neurochemical changes after chronic iron overload in mice and rats.

To develop an animal model for identifying the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the hepatic and pancreatic effects of chronic iron overload which are characteristic of the human disease idiopathic hemochromatosis and possible neurochemical mechanisms which associate effects of iron with neurological disorders, e.g., Parkinson and Alzheimer diseases.
