Control and Prevention of Cryptosporidiosis

Objective

Develop methods to prevent or minimize Cryptosporidium parvum infection in cattle. Develop a vaccine effective against C. parvum under field conditions. Identify new drugs to treat or prevent C. parvum infection in cattle. Continue basic research on the mechanisms of C. parvum infection.

More information

Use calves and laboratory animals to optimize a Cryptosporidium parvum vaccine for field use. Identify and screen new drugs in laboratory animals for efficacy against C. parvum infection. Test promising drugs for efficacy in calves. Use calves and laboratory animals to determine the changes in the intestine that make animals resistant to C. parvum infection. Use this knowledge to develop new strategies for prevention and treatment of C. parvum disease.
