Functional Assessment of Type III Secreted Sop Effector Proteins from Salmonella in Eukaryotic Cells

Objective

Activities of Salmonella outer proteins (Sops) that are involved in the induction of enteropathogenic responses in the infected host will be investigated using a combination of molecular and cell biology approaches. Each Sop protein (SopA, SopB, and SopD) will be expressed in eukaryotic cells and cellular responses elicited by such expression will be assessed. <P>
Finally, phenotypes discovered in these in vitro experiments will be verified using experimental infections of eukaryotic cells with different relevant Salmonella mutant strains.
