IMPACT OF ANTIMICROBIAL THERAPY FOR BOVINE RESPIRATORY DISEASE ON ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE OF FECAL ESCHERICHIA COLI IN PREWEANED DAIRY CALVES

Objective

1) Characterize the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) phenotype of fecal E. coli isolated from dairy calves at birth and weaning for calves receiving antimicrobial therapy for BRD prior to weaning.2) Characterize the antimicrobial resistance genes of fecal E. coli isolated from dairy calves at birth and weaning for calves receiving antimicrobial therapy for BRD prior to weaning.3) Estimate and correlate the risk of phenotypic and genotypic resistance to antimicrobial therapy for BRD in preweaned dairy calves.
