IMPACT OF ORGANIC ACID CHALLENGE ON INTERNAL PH AND ACCUMULATION OF ACID ANIONS IN LISTERIA MONOCYTOGENES

Objective

The overall objective of the proposed research is to determine the extent to which the two human pathogenic strains of L. monocytogenes employed in our current project are able to combat the intracellular accumulation of various organic acid anions by modifying their internal pH. The specific objectives are as follows:Objective 1 - Follow internal pH in two human pathogenic strains of L. monocytogenes exposed to various external treatments of pH and organic acid. Objective 2: Follow internal accumulation of acid anions in two human pathogenic strains of L. monocytogenes exposed to various external treatments of pH and organic acid. Note: Objectives 1 and 2 will be accomplished in parallel, but separate, experiments.
