Themajorobjectives of this study are to:Understand the population genetic structure of the fall armyworm,Spodopterafrugiperda, across the entire United States using a population genomics approach. Specifically, we will(a)assess spatial and temporal population structure ofS. frugiperdaacross all three US flyways, and(b)identify diagnostic SNP markers that can be used to rapidly differentiate populations and their hybrids.Determine if a significant return migration occurs inS. frugiperdausing stable isotope analysis.Assess the effect of photoperiod on the propensity for interstrain hybridization.
