Mid-Atlantic Microbial Pathogenesis Meeting (Mampm), 2015

Objective

The Mid-Atlantic Microbial Pathogenesis Meeting (MAMPM) will be held January 25-January 27, 2015 at the Wintergreen Ski Resort near Charlottesville, VA. The purpose of the conference is to foster communication and collaboration between scientists engaged in microbial pathogenesis research. In addition, a key goal is to provide students and post-doctoral fellows with an opportunity to present their work to a knowledgeable audience in a relaxed and collegial environment. Providing such opportunities for young scientists is important for their scientific development and has been one of the most appealing aspects of this conference. The meeting will be publicized through a combination of advertisements including a website and direct mailings. Scientists working in all aspects of microbial pathogenesis will be encouraged to attend and present their work. Numerous USDA-funded investigators studying bacterial pathogens are located in this geographic region and many of them are expected to participate in this meeting. In addition, at least one keynote speaker/yr. anchors a session traditionally concerned with animal and (or) food-borne bacterial pathogens. The 2015 MAMPM will feature Dr. Margaret McFall-Ngai, who studies a squid/Vibrio fisheri symbiosis, which has become a paradigm of animal/bacterial interactions. Other talks by participants are anticipated to cover topics that include Brucella abortus pathogenesis; equine herpesvirus entry into host cells, as well as Staphylococcal and Streptococcal host pathogen interactions that impact mastitis in dairy cattle. In addition, members of the Organizing and Scientific Review Committees for the meeting are or have been USDA-funded investigators.

More information

The meeting will be organized into four sessions for oral presentations and two poster sessions over a three-day period (one full day and two half days). Oral presentations will be divided among keynote speakers, principal investigators, postdoctoral fellows, and students. Each session will feature a 45-minute talk by a keynote speaker. Principal investigators will provide 30-minute talks, while students and postdoctoral fellows will provide 15-minute presentations. Talks by new principal investigators will be given higher priority than established investigators whose students and/or postdoctoral fellows are presenting. The Scientific Advisory Committee (see below) will select these latter presentations from the submitted abstracts. The remainder of the presentations will be given as poster presentations at sessions scheduled for the 1st and 2nd days of the meeting.

1.
