Prevalence and Characterization of E. Coli O157:H7 from 2006 NAHMS Swine Fecal Samples

Objective

To determine the prevalence, antimicrobial resistance characterization, and genetic profile of E. coli 0157:H7 in the U.S. swine herd.

More information

As part of the 2006 NAHMS study, 60 fecal samples from approximately 250 swine operations in 17 states will be collected. With additional funding, the prevalence of E. coli O157:H7 will be determined on approximately 25% of these samples (about 3300 samples). All confirmed E. coli O015:H7 isolates will be analyzed to determine antimicrobial resistance profiles.
