Retail survey of T-2 and HT-2 toxin levels in oat based products

Objective

"Analyse a range of oat based retail products to:

Determine the extent to which T-2 and HT-2 toxins may be present in processed oat products;
Produce a data set for UK retail products that can be submitted to EFSA in response to the EU Recommendation 165/2013
Samples were collected from the major retailers, health food chains, online retailers and a small number of convenience stores. The type of oat products comprised the food groups: porridge oats, oat based breakfast cereals, oat biscuit products, oatmeal and other products (black pudding, oatbread).

The study analysed 200 retail oat based products for the presence of T-2 and HT-2 toxin, using an accredited method. Samples were collected from 5 different locations in the UK.

In addition to the retail survey, a small study was undertaken to examine farming practices and weather data and how these factors might influence the levels of T-2 and HT-2 toxin from one oat harvest to the next."
