The long-term goals of this project include: (a) bigger production yields; (b) enriched nutritional properties of feed, food, and forage products; (c) increased farm revenue; (d) expanded food science curriculum in school-based agricultural education programs; and (e) a strengthened pipeline for the agriculture, food, and natural resources (AFNR) workforce. To that end, two objectives will guide the work: Objective 1 - utilize soil management practices to improve crop and pasture production for enhanced productivity and food quality across different food systems; and Objective 2 - establish a food system training center to provide support in the areas production, processing, preservation, safety, and food science education.
