The Source and Fate of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Farmed Mussels and other Commercial Species from Loch Leven

Objective

The objectives of this study (a continuation of S02004) were to investigate and monitor the concentrations of PAHs in farmed blue mussels, farmed salmon, Nephrops norvegicus (Norway lobster), wild winkles and mussels, water and sediments during the period February 2001 to March 2002. The information from this programme of work was used to advise the FSAS decision making process as to when it would be safe for the resumption of harvesting mussels for human consumption and to ensure other species remained unaffected.
