The Agroecology Summer Intensive is an undergraduate 10-week residential curriculum in academic and experiential learning at Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College. It comprises four courses (14 credits) in Sustainable Agriculture: soils, vegetable crops, agroecology and small farm management/produce marketing that count towards the school's Agroecology Minor. A Certificate Program is available for persons not seeking academic credit. Internships are available at the Merry Lea Sustainable Farm.
The Agroecology Minor requires four courses in the Agroecology Summer Intensive program plus two additional courses.
Courses in Sustainable Agriculture (NREM 304/504) and Sustainable Land Systems (LA 471). Course in Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (NREM 335/535) addresses bioenergy (particularly dedicated to energy crops) in a sustainability context.
Student-led courses in sustainable agriculture practices are offered each semester at the student-run farm.
Merry Lea Sustainable Farm, the agricultural component of Goshen College's Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center, serves the Agroecology Summer Intensive program, the Center's K-12 programs, and the Center's Masters in Environmental Education. The "educational farm demonstrat[es] sustainable agriculture practices for students and the visiting public."
The Purdue University Student Farm offers students experiential learning opportunities, serves as a site for undergraduate research on sustainable agriculture, and offers courses to students who participate in the farm's operation.
