The Sustainable Small Acreage Farming and Ranching program is "comprised of a set of courses designed and/or included to meet specific learning objectives that are important for achieving sustainable, small farm and ranch enterprises. The courses can be taken individually or collectively for a certificate. They are offered in multiple locations and in a variety of formats that meet the needs of interested academic students, community members, beginning and existing farmers."

Students can explore organic and sustainable agriculture, agroecology and environmental sciences at the 25-acre Evergreen State College's Organic Farm. The Organic Farm's Sustainable Agriculture Lab is a hands-on training facility. The farm includes a food-grade laboratory, the student-designed and built Organic Farmhouse, and the student-run Demeter's permaculture demonstration site and Community Gardens. A Community Supported Agriculture program and Community Gardens and community-based activities also are available.

The Hispanic orchard employee education program (HOEEP) is a certificate program designed for the Latino workforce in the tree fruit and viticulture industries. Courses offered include horticulture, integrated pest management, and viticulture.

This involves people and resources to produce, process, and distribute sustainable food products. Regulations regarding handling and processing are covered."

The College's Practice of Organic Agriculture program and the Practice of Sustainable Agriculture program have both an academic program and an on-farm component at the Evergreen State College Organic Farm; coursework offered in sustainable agriculture and organic production; ecological agriculture courses emphasize holistic, systems thinking and global agroecosystems; Farm to Table focuses on food systems including organic gardening and food preparation. The Evergreen College also has a permaculture site, demonstration site, compost facility, and a biodiesel generation project. Evergreen College doesn't offer Majors or Minors; students have the options of focusing studies in a particular area and designating that as their area of emphasis.

Edmonds Community College offers three certificates in Urban Agriculture and is developing an A.A.S. degree in Sustainable Urban Agriculture. "Study and practice fundamental and emerging sustainability approaches to urban agriculture - such as agroecology and soil and plant sciences; site designing and planning; growing diverse food crops in urban and suburban environments; and operating vertical, rooftop, hydroponic, and aquaponic systems."
