Borrow Materials

NAL provides document delivery services for USDA employees, libraries, organizations, and the general public. Most requests are fulfilled within two business days and delivered electronically or by standard mail. Use the options below to find the request method that matches your affiliation and review any associated fees.


USDA Employees

USDA employees can use eAuth to request items through:

Fees: $25


Library, Association, or Organization (Non-USDA)

Option 1:  Submit an interlibrary loan request through:

  • OCLC (NAL's symbol: AGL)
  • DOCLINE (NAL's library ID: MDUNAL)

Option 2:  Click "Non-USDA User" Login and then Create Account to request items through:

Fees:

  • Invoiced: $25
  • OCLC Interlibrary Loan Fee Management Service (IFM): $18
  • Exempted groups: no fee

Exempted Groups (no charge):

  • U.S. federal agencies (excluding USDA)
  • Historically Black Colleges and Universities
  • Land Grant Tribal Colleges
  • Chesapeake Information and Research Library Alliance members (CIRLA)
  • Agricultural Libraries Network (AGLINET) member libraries requesting U.S.-published materials.

NOTE: AGLINET members are charged standard fees for materials published outside the United States.

Delivery Timeframes

  • Standard requests: fulfilled within two business days
