Combining affordable multi-functional multi-depth soil sensors and process models for real-time nitrate leaching monitoring and management

Objective

The overall goal of this project is tocombine affordable multi-functional multi-depth soil sensors and soil process models forreal-time nitrate leaching monitoring and water quantity and quality management. We willachieve the project goal with four specific aims: 1) Design and test of fully printable multifunctionalsoil sensors in the laboratory; 2) Assemble sensors into a multi-depth sensing systemfor in situ real-time nitrate leaching monitoring; 3) Use sensor measurements to evaluate threeprocess models for nitrate leaching modeling; 4) Enhance the understanding and adoption ofaffordable sensor-model fusion approach through education and extension activities.
