Objective
The objectives are: a) develop rapid nucleic acid extraction techniques for molecular detection of hepatitis A virus and Norwalk virus in molluscan shellfish by RT-PCR-based analyses and develop inclusive primer sets for RT-PCR detection of Norwalk-like viruses, b) develop cell culturebased assays for the enumeration of hepatitis A and human caliciviruses, and c) evaluate the uptake, distribution and elimination of enteric viruses and vibrios from shellfish maintained under simulated natural conditions.
