ERMES - European Research for Mediterranean Seafood

Objective

ERMES aims at supporting access to research and development activities and to new technologies for SMEs of the seafood industry (from capture to aquaculture to processing and distribution) in the Mediterranean area. The project provides scientific and technological advise to companies on the basis of careful analysis of their innovation needs.

More information

The project directly involves 5 reputed research organisations from Spain, France, Italy and Greece and has a strong potential to help improving the quality of seafood processing in the Mediterranean region. The project combines the expertise of scientific institutions with that of business support organisations (Chamber of Commerce from different Mediterranean countries) in charge of contacting, informing and profiling companies likely to be assisted by the project in different countries. Scientific advise will be provided through a series of workshop, one-to-one sessions and follow up providing links to the most adequate research organisations likely to give the response to the needs of companies. Scientific advice will direct companies to three possible scenarios: a) company needs research. ERMES will address the company to structure its research and innovation needs and establish the most appropriate research institution working on the issue the company is interested in. b) company needs research within the framework of FP6 activities. Therefore, ERMES will assist the company in setting up cooperation with that particular initiative, be it an IP or other type of project. c) company needs technology transfer. In this case, ERMES TT specialist will assist the company by setting the roadmap to upgrade their technological capacity. <P>
Expected results: to provide SMEs of the Mediterranean regions with a wide set of scientific services so as to help them meet their innovation and technological needs for the improvement of the overall seafood production chain.
