The Evaluation of the Physiologic and Microbial Parameters in Poultry Administered Poultry Star

Objective

ToTo assess the efficacy of Poultry Star on the colonization of Clostridium perfringens and its ability to cause Necrotic enteritis in commercial broilers. The goal of this objective is to evaluate parameters that include but are not limited to: efficacy, dose, production, timing administration (feed/water), immune, and best management practices. The results of this research will be utilized for the development of a commercial product to reduce Clostridium perfringens.
To To assess the efficacy of Poultry Star on the colonization of Eimeria and its ability to cause Coccidiosis in commercial broilers. The goal of this objective is to evaluate parameters that include but are not limited to: dose, production, lesion development (Clostridium/Coccidia), intestinal physiology, and efficacy. The results of this research will be utilized for the development of a commercial product to reduce Coccidiosis.
To To assess the efficacy of Poultry Star on the colonization of Campylobacter and its ability to cause Campylobacteriosis in commercial broilers.

More information

Approach: We propose to evaluate microbial products in vivo to bacterial challenges with CP in commercial broilers. Day-old chickens will be used for the in vivo challenge model, and clinical parameters will be evaluated. Control and CP challenged chickens will be used as cell or tissues donors for the in vitro/in vivo studies; following isolation and enrichment, the samples will be subjected to established functional assays employed to determine the effects of CP. Both in vivo and in vitro models for all of the organisms has been developed and routinely used in our laboratory.
