Develop sensitive molecular methods for detection, identification and quantitation of mycotoxigenic and food spoilage fungi, biopesticidal bacteria, and yeasts and actinomycetes used for biotransformations.
Species of toxigenic and phytopathogenic molds in the genera Penicillium, Aspergillus, Fusarium and their relatives will be detected and quantified using molecular genetic techniques. This approach also will be applied to food spoilage yeasts, to insect pathogenic Bacillus spp. and to industrially significant yeasts and actinomycetes. Species-specific probes will be developed from ribosomal DNA sequences and from other areas of the genome. Peoria, IL, NCAUR, MPR Labs, Rms 3118, 3122: BL-1; IBC Recertified 05/20/1999.
