FINCAS DE FAMILIA: BRIDGING GENERATIONS AND PROGRAMS TO DEVELOP SUCCESSFUL BEGINNING FARMERS IN SOUTH TEXAS COLONIAS

Objective

This project's objectives support the project's overall goal to develop beginning farmers and ranchers in South Texas colonias that use sustainable and agroecological farming practices that enhance the local food system, improve their wellbeing, and create prosperity. These supporting objectives include:1. Recruit project participants and promote project activities in low-income colonias;2. Demonstrate sustainable farming and train participants as beginning farmers;3. Provide technical assistance to beginning farmers and then mentor them over time;4. Assist participants with direct marketing and with cooperative development;5. Provide small-farm incubation opportunities to beginning farmers from colonias;6. Administer project through partner meetings, annual reports, and project evaluations.
