The long-term goal of the Nevada Meat Science Workforce Development Program is to create a safe and resilient meat and poultry workforce to support Nevada's entrepreneurs that are currently under construction.Supporting objectives are the following:Create collaborations with two of Nevada's community colleges for meat science workforce development.Utilize existing curricula on Meat Industry, Food Safety, Quality Systems, Meat Science and Muscle Biology, and create curricula for in-classroom for-credit training based on the workforce development need of plant managers and butchers.Create a 6-credit internship program in partnership with Nevada entrepreneurs opening plants in 2023 and enhance UNR Extension's current non-credit slaughter and processing program.Provide for-credit transcript endorsement and/or technical certificates in meat science that are stackable to Certificates of Achievement, Associate's degrees, and Bachelor's degrees.
