Our long-term goal is to develop decision-making tools to help swine stakeholders (producers, managers, and veterinarians) manage their operations by providing information to facilitate data-driven decisions in near real-time, improving animal production efficiency and competitiveness of pig production in the U.S. The overall objective of this application, which is the next step toward attaining our long-term goal, is to develop a surveillance system to assist swine producers in monitoring real-time key production indicators (KPI's) to early detect disease PRRSV outbreaks by identifying deviations in productivity promoting data-driven swine health and management. Our objectives are:1) to develop a pipeline to allow ongoing real-time data capture on a secure and sustainable fashion (Research Aim);2) to select and validate statistical algorithms to monitor and identify deviations on productivity data in real-time (Research Aim);3) to establish a producer online surveillance system for reporting (benchmarking), early warning and field investigation(Extension Aim);4) to promote the use of production data-based surveillance to maintain the expected production thresholds through producer-oriented extension(Extension Aim).
