1) To develop and release high yielding, disease resistant, excellent quality cultivars of wheat for the high rainfall region of Texas; 2) To develop soft and hard wheat cultivars and germplasm for dual-purpose (grazing and grain) uses; 3) To pursue research into the genetic basis of resistance to Septoria glume blotch, and pyramid genes for resistance in the wheat breeding program so as to improve host plant resistance to this disease; 4) To facilitate and develop management practices and cropping systems which maximize the genetic potential of small grains and which optimize and sustain land and water resources.
