  1. Design and Optimization of a yst-PCR to Detect Yersinia enterocolitica in Meat Food

    • In this study, a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) directed to the yst chromosomal gene (yst-PCR) was used as a rapid, sensitive, and specific method to detect Yersinia enterocolitica strains belonging to different biotypes in foods; a competitive Internal Amplification Control (cIAC) is also developed. The cIAC had a molecular weight of 417 bp and was detected until a concentration of 0.85 ng/μL.

  2. Comparison of Yersinia enterocolitica DNA Isolation from Swabs Without Pre-Enrichment on Selective Media With Isolation Preceded by Warm and Cold Enrichment

  3. Yersinia enterocolitica Outbreak Associated with Pasteurized Milk

    • In July 2019, we investigated a cluster of Yersinia enterocolitica cases affecting a youth summer camp and nearby community in northeastern Pennsylvania. After initial telephone interviews with camp owners and community members, we identified pasteurized milk from a small dairy conducting on-site pasteurization, Dairy A, as a shared exposure. We conducted site visits at the camp and Dairy A where we collected milk and other samples. Samples were cultured for Y. enterocolitica.
