Research Publications (Food Safety)

This page tracks research articles published in national and international peer-reviewed journals. Recent articles are available ahead of print and searchable by Journal, Article Title, and Category. Research publications are tracked across six categories: Bacterial Pathogens, Chemical Contaminants, Natural Toxins, Parasites, Produce Safety, and Viruses. Articles produced by USDA Grant Funding Agencies (requires login) and FDA Grant Funding Agencies (requires login) are also tracked in Scopus.

  1. Nano‐MoO3 for highly selective enrichment of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in in‐tube solid‐phase microextraction

    • Journal of Separation Science
    • Nano‐molybdenum trioxide was prepared from nano‐molybdenum disulfide by simple firing in muffle furnace. Nano‐molybdenum trioxide was used as the extraction coating on the stainless steel wire. Four wires were filled in a polyetheretherketone tube to get an extraction tube. The tube was connected to the six‐port valve of a high performance liquid chromatograph, and the online analysis system was constructed.

  2. Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry with triple stage fragmentation for highly selective analysis and pharmacokinetics of alarelin in rat plasma

    • Journal of Separation Science
    • Alarelin, a gonadotropin‐releasing hormone analogue, is widely used in China for the treatment of endometriosis and uterine leiomyoma. In order to investigate its pharmacokinetic behavior and support the preclinical application of new formulations, we have developed a novel and highly selective bioanalytical method to determine alarelin in rat plasma based on liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry with triple stage fragmentation.

  3. A high‐throughput screening method for determination of multi‐antibiotics in animal feed

    • Journal of Separation Science
    • A high‐throughput method based on ultrasonic‐assisted extraction, 96‐well plate thin‐film microextraction was established to determinate 18 antibiotics in animal feed. In this method, the extraction was implemented by ultrasonic‐assisted extraction for 30 min with disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid‐McIlvaine buffer (pH 5) containing 6% sodium chloride w/v, purified by thin‐film microextraction and combined with 96‐well plate system to improve the efficiency.

  4. A simple two‐stage column chromatographic separation scheme for strontium, lead, neodymium and hafnium isotope analyses in geological samples by thermal ionization mass spectrometry or multi‐collector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry

    • Journal of Separation Science
    • Here, a two‐stage column separation scheme is developed for the concomitant isolation of Sr, Pb, Nd, and Hf from geological samples. The first column, which consists of three resin layers (AG50W‐X8 ion exchange resin + Ln specific resin + Sr specific resin), separates the high field strength element + rare earth element, Sr and Pb from the matrices.
