Recognizing the need for a better understanding of food safety from a social science and data analysis perspective, as well as the necessity to increase capacities in food safety by training and encouraging students to pursue careers in thisfield, we aim to offer the first class of its kind.The specific objectives of the project are:Objective 1:Co-develop a new course - "Food Safety: Economics and Business."Objective 2:Conduct research and write four case studies related to the economics and business of food safety.Case 1: Trade, regulation, and impact to industryCase 2: Baby Formula Recall and ShortageCase 3: Food safety outbreaks in leafy greens and impact on industryCase 4: Food safety recalls of food ingredients and the complexity of the food manufacturing industryObjective 3:Publish four food safety case studies, to be used in courses across the agribusiness, agricultural economics, business, food science, and economics curricula.Objective 4:Teach the "Food Safety: Economics and Business" course at CSU-Chico and Michigan State University, hence helping increase capacities in food safety for both the private and public sectors.?
